Project Description

3D scan of an MV Agusta Brutale Dragster 800 (built in 2015)

Italian naked bike digitized as a high-resolution 3D model

For this project, we completely captured an MV Agusta Brutale Dragster 800 from 2015 using 3D scanning. The aim was to precisely digitize the distinctive motorcycle geometry for an interactive 3D representation. The scan was carried out without texture capture, so that the focus is entirely on the shapes, proportions and technical details of the vehicle.

The MV Agusta Brutale Dragster 800 is one of the best-known Italian naked bikes of its generation. With its 798 cc three-cylinder engine, around 125 hp output and the characteristic design of a trellis frame, single-sided swingarm and three-pipe exhaust system, it offers numerous interesting geometries for digital capture.

Challenges with the 3D scan of the motorcycle

Motorcycles are among the more challenging scan objects. Especially with the Brutale Dragster, numerous filigree components, undercuts and open structures place high demands on data capture.

The scanned areas include, among others:

  • Frame construction
  • Tank and cladding elements
  • Single-sided swing arm
  • Wheels and braking systems
  • Exhaust system
  • Motor area
  • Chassis and add-on parts

Thanks to the high data density, even complex areas can be digitally represented in detail.

Possible uses of the scan data

The 3D data generated is suitable for numerous applications:

  • Technical documentation
  • Reverse engineering
  • Spare parts development
  • CAD reconstruction
  • Digital archiving
  • Visualization and presentation
  • Virtual exhibitions and museums

For rare vehicles or conversions in particular, a precise 3D scan enables long-term digital preservation of the geometry.
