Cultural heritage in 3D

Time and again we receive inquiries as to whether we can also scan entire landscapes or buildings in 3D. Our answer: Of course!

Here we show you a 3D scan with a drone from the cultural area. The 68 m² Oceanus mosaic was discovered in 1966. It comes from the central representation room (apse) of the palace villa and shows the god of the sea, ship and harbor scenes, Mediterranean architecture and many sea creatures from the Mediterranean. Remains of an inscription naming a consul date the mosaic to 234 A.D. It is signed by the mosaic painter Victorinus. In the center of the mosaic is a marble-covered water basin, which was reconstructed based on excavation findings. Oceanus himself is located in the semicircular apse, which is interpreted as a triclinium

We were able to scan the surface with the mosaic in such high resolution that even the structure of the individual small ceramics of the mosaic are clearly recognizable.
