3D scan prices

The prices for 3D scanning are basically based on the effort involved in the item to be scanned. Smaller objects are certainly cheaper than a monument, simply because the area to be scanned is much smaller. However, the size alone does not account for the effort involved. A small object can be more difficult to scan than a large one because it is black or because the item has reflective or transparent surfaces. Is the object to be scanned simple geometry or is it more complex? Is it a single item or should a hundred identical items be scanned? The texture, if it is to be captured, can also make a scan more complex. Ultimately, pricing also depends on the scanner to be used. The more accurately it works, the more accurate the scan is required by the customer, the higher the 3D scan prices will be. We only work with high-tech 3D scanners with an accuracy of up to 0.01 mm. If required, we can include texture up to 16K.

It is therefore not possible to quote a fixed price. However, we do offer a solution. Simply send us a non-binding inquiry. We usually respond within 24 hours on weekdays, usually on the same day. We can often help you at a reasonable price, especially for simpler 3D scans.

The following paragraph provides an initial price guide.

3D scan – point cloud generation

The basic price for a simple 3D scan starts at 100 euros, depending on the size, complexity and requirements. The object is scanned with a laser beam / structured light using a 3D scanner that is best suited to the object and the requirements and a point pattern is generated. This point pattern describes the geometry of the scanned component and is the basic step in the 3D scanning process. It is a prerequisite for the following work steps. We only work with high-performance 3D scanners with an accuracy of up to 0.01 mm.

Output formats: A point cloud is output in the PLY file format.

3D surface model

In order to obtain a 3D model with triangular surfaces, the raw scan must be post-processed. This is a further work step. The costs for this again depend on the complexity of the scanned article and the number of 3D scans created. The more complex or larger an article is, the more raw scans have to be created, which then have to be processed in order to obtain the watertight 3D model with surfaces. Thanks to our many years of experience, we are now able to carry out these work steps for a relatively low flat rate.

It is essential to link the individual points from the point cloud to polygonal surface data using triangular meshing in order to create a usable CAD file. Further processing of the scan is not possible with a pure point cloud from the 3D scan. We therefore only deliver 3D scans as a fully processed 3D surface model and only deliver the pure 3D point cloud in exceptional cases at the customer’s request.

Such a finished STL file is then watertight (standard for us) and can be printed, for example. In order to be able to modify such a file, the next step is required, the 3D reverse engineering.

Output formats: STL / OBJ / or on request. On request also glTF / glb.

3D reverse engineering

If a 3D scanned object is to be modified, it must be designed. The 3D scan data serves as a template for this. Depending on the type of object and the purpose for which the data is to be used later, the corresponding reverse engineering is carried out. For very simple shapes, prices for a surface return start at 100 euros.

Output formats: STEP or on request in all common formats.

3D modeling

If a 3D model of a product that does not actually exist is required, it is modeled in 3D. This requires as much information as possible. Your ideas, sketches, photos, etc. From this, we model your product as a 3D file according to your wishes, as if the product were already finished in reality.

Simple models can be modeled in 3D in a short time, with costs starting at €150. We are also happy to realize entire product ranges within a very manageable time frame. The size of our team per order depends on your ideas and wishes.
